Cayuga Lake out of Long Point 7/19 AM
Did a last minute 1/2 day trip with Will again. After rescheduling a trip I had booked for today to next week, Will asked me yesterday if I would guide him for a morning half day today. He’s had difficult fishing this week while on his own and with me at times on Cayuga Lake. So sure, I can guide starting early and getting off the water before we get crazy from the heat. We went out of Long Point for a change of location. I have had good reports out of here and still have a summer trip or two scheduled to launch out of here. Overall, I haven’t been up here since my bearing failure on 7/2. Fishing is still great in the upper lake. (Diary keepers for Region 7 reported good fishing throughout the summer up north in 2018.) I start going out of Myers when good numbers of fish migrate downlake. Myers is a much closer drive for me, but by no means does that mean the fishing isn’t still great out of Long Point. Long Point fishes great on a south wind too – you can just swing around Stoney Point.
I don’t think our change in location is what made the fishing better today, though it didn’t hurt. There are plenty of fish in midlake areas. I think the weather conditions were much more conducive to laker fishing and we didn’t mess around with any other species today. Will had a great AM with 11 solid fish landed including a few wild ones. Three of the fish were 28″ers and another three or more were around 27″. Some of the lakers fought exceptionally well. Great day and the breeze kept the conditions bearable, if not downright comfortable.
