Cayuga Lake out of Long Point State Park 9/3 PM
Got out here on my own for 2 hours for some scouting. We have a lot of warm water out on Cayuga Lake from King Ferry south and I wanted to see what was doing up by Long Point. I found good numbers of fish around the point – both north and south. Plenty of rainbows are around higher in the water column and I had a big one follow up one of my jigs on my first or second drop. Baitfish were abundant but not nearly as dense here as further south.
There are a lot of algae particulates in the water, but the water clarity is very good. There weren’t many clouds in the sky thus there was a lot of sun penetration going on – it was around 70 degrees for the air temperature at best, but the glassy conditions and high sun made it feel much warmer. Lake trout were not particularly cooperative for me during my first hour fishing (I started at around 3:30 pm) but by 5 pm they showed some aggressiveness and I started getting some hookups. I landed two nice fish – the first around 24.5″ and the second a 30″ wild fish that fought great. I had a couple other momentary hookups as well. Leaves are starting to change colors. Water temp was 73 degrees on top. Down 115′ I had 50 degrees north of the point. It’s warm!
