Cayuga Lake out of Myers Park 8/13

Reports

Guided Ron and Rachel for a full-day today getting underway at around 6:45 am.  Jigging for lake trout is good to very good on Cayuga Lake right now.  Good numbers of rainbow trout are also around.  I’m not hearing much on Landlocked salmon.  Brown trout fishing is fair to good.

Our AM bite was fair.  Ron picked up a couple of fish in the morning.  Rachel nabbed a nice one around 28″ to 29″. We tried some different areas and had a steady but slow pick of fish for the most part.  Around noon, our bite heated up a bit.  Rachel hooked up and mentioned that she couldn’t reel in.  The drag kept slipping.  I hadn’t had that complaint before about that particular fishing outfit, but I cranked down her drag as the battle went on.  She didn’t think it was a big fish, but it became apparent in fairly short order that it was!  I slipped the net under a 34″ lake trout!  The amazing thing was that last year in April or May, she landed another 34″er!

We had one stretch of water where rainbows were chasing fairly consistently.  Rachel had a good bite right by the surface, but it didn’t get hooked very well.  It was probably over 5lbs.  Rainbows are really thriving these days on Cayuga Lake.  They’ve been doing great for the last 6 years or so.  It’s wonderful to see!
