Cayuga Lake out of Myers Park 8/28, 29

Reports

Conditions continue to improve on the Finger Lakes after the rainstorms of August 18th and 19th.  I drove by Owasco Lake today and people were launching and enjoying the lake.  I’m sure it is still very high, but with the recent dry spell water levels are going down and the debris (with the steady winds) is getting to be less of a factor by the day.

8/28 AM:  Guided Bernard and his brother Dan.  Bernard and his girlfriend Erin were out with me on July 20th at the peak of the annual algae bloom and we had a pretty tough day.  He managed to land a couple nice fish but apart from that we only had one other hookup and we fished hard and covered a lot of water on a long half day trip.  The fishing was much better today with some nice fish up to 31″ landed.   Bernard showed me his new Cutco Fillet Knife – that thing was a beast!!!  Super sharp (scary sharp) and it had an adjustable blade – you could go from 6″ to 9″ on it.  They have a lifetime warranty and will sharpen it for free when needed.  Tough to beat that!  I put it to work and it made quick work of the 5 fish they kept.  We also released a couple today and quite a few hits were missed.

Another....

And another...

The big one came on his first drop of the jig and fought great.  We were all impressed with the strong runs and digging that this wild hefty lake trout did!

8/29 AM:  Today was a trip with David (whom I first guided on April 14th for some hot deep jigging out of Long Point) and his friend Pat, and Pat’s dad Chuck.  We had a lot of fun this morning as I tried to break the guys out of some of their jigging habits.  I can’t say I had much luck!  A lot of fish were missed and dropped this morning but the guys also landed a bunch too.  We had two fish in the 30″ range.  Most ran around 27″.   Fishing continues to improve by the day.  All were released today and they all looked good.  Very few boats were out today which was a pleasant surprise.   Fun day with a great bunch of guys!
